If you can create the image design, WE can print it!!

We print field Props on poplin fabric. Poplin fabric is lightweight, nearly opaque, and can be seamed together for really large props.

Looking to astound judges and blow away your competition? Go no further. With Custom Printed Fabrics, you can create fully custom-designed props that not only heighten the sense of sight during your performance, but also compliment your chosen choreography, music and overall theme. Props are what set you apart from other bands, and now you can accurately portray anything from bold color schemes to intricate photographs, and more.

With our field props, the Director and show design staff can now visually present the themes with in the music and drill designs. Do they need a skyline of NYC to go along with the music "New York , New York" or a pirate ship sailing the high seas while playing musical selections from "Pirates of the Caribbean". You get the idea. Drill designers have been doing this for years.

Follow these simple steps to create your Digital Prop!

Selecting a digital photo

  • The size of the photo is most important. It must be at least 300 dpi and 500 kb. Most photos you see on any web page and on this page are only 72 dpi and will not be large enough for a prop. The photos are this size so they will load quickly to your computer.
  • Do a Google search for Digital Photo web sites to purchase a photo. There are many. Generally photos are offered at three levels. Remember you will need 300dpi and 500kb. This usually is the middle level offered. Also purchase an 8"x10" size if available. Purchase a larger quality if your photo has a lot of small detail and if you are creating a very large prop. Then, Email me the photo for approval, ryderdrill@aol.com

Select the size and style of your props

  • Decide what size prop you would like. This is very flexible. We can create almost any size you want. Usually props are 4'x8', 6'x9', 10'x10'. We have done props 8'x40'.
  • Next decide if you would just want the picture plain with out any pole hem or sewing. Usually persons want a pillow case style with a plain white material on the backside. This is easy to manage because it is simply slid of a frame. Pole hems are also popular to slide the poles along the top and sides of the prop. We must know what the diameter of the pole to make the pole hems the correct size to fit the pole.

Typical Questions:

How long will it take for my fabric to be printed~

Most Proofs take from 1 to 3 days. The actual production yardage can take one to two weeks. (see chart in Ordering Info.)

What are the best fabrics to digitally print~

100% cotton, linen and polyester are currently best to print using our digital process. These fibers accept the color readily and can be finished to meet the strictest color and wear standards.

Can Nylon and Acrylic fabrics be printed~

No, these fabrics cannot be printed digitally at this time. We are working on means to print these fabrics at a later date.

 What about silks~

Silks are fascinating fabrics. Some of the most beautiful fabrics in the world are made of silk. But, if you look closely, you'll see that they are often less than perfect in the way they are manufactured. People who are experienced with silks learn to overlook some of their imperfections...and by that I mean little creases, wrinkles, selvages that are extremely tight or extremely loose, shade changes, sub trends, misweaves...any number of interesting manufacturing "effects." When printing silks, we need extra time for fabric preparation. The risk of damaging silk in preparation of small yardage is too high to attempt. You must be ready to prepare a large quantity, several hundred yards, to make it economical. We can store the extra prepared silk for you or return it.

How many colors can you print~

The image dictates the number of colors. If the image is a photograph, then we will print with all the colors in the picture, usually hundreds. If the image is a textile pattern composed of a certain number of colors (see the edge of any printed fabric), then we can print the exact number of colors. Color matching is very achievable.

Can you match colors~

Yes, if we are provided colors to match. If the image is a photograph, then we can match all the colors. If specific colors are needed, then we match them.

If we send electronic files with our image, what file types do you accept~

TIFF (.tif), JPEG (.jpg), TARGA (.tga), or Photoshop (.PSD) format0. Bi-level, bitmap. Grayscale / Graylevel0. Indexed, composite. LZW Compression, if needed

What resolution should we send you~

At least 300 dpi; for enlarging your image or better quality for large props, higher resolutions are needed. 72 dpi photo will work for flags.

What kind of topcoat treatments are available for my fabric~

We use commercially available topcoats; such as, anti-stain fluorocarbons and flame retardants. These chemicals are non-toxic, environmentally safe, and they give a good appearance and hand to the fabric.

What about stain protection~ Is it really that good~

Absolutely! Stain protection is the best investment you can make in your fabrics. Our stain protection helps protect your fabric form spills. It also keeps dirt and grime out of the fibers. Over the long term, your fabric will last longer and look "newer" longer due to decreased rub resistance. Also, if you have your fabric flame retarded, a "Flame and Stain" protective finish will substantially improve the look and performance of your fabric. You can't see it...you can't feel it!!

What is the maximum image size you will print~

We are only limited by the width of the printers: 67" for cotton and linen; 72" for any polyester. Of course objects wider than that can be seamed together to form very wide panels. The length of the image can be any size.

What is the minimum yardage you will print~

We will print any quantity from 1 yard to 500 yards.

Can you produce finished, sewn objects~

We have contacts that can produce some finished goods. It all depends on what you need. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities.

I have a commercial project. What fire code does the fabric need to meet~

The location of the project will determine the fire code you must meet. Before specifying a finish, we recommend that you contact the local fire marshal in the area of the project, and he will tell you what fire codes must be met. If a fabric is sent to us without a specified fire code, we will treat the fabrics to our "in house" standards. Drapery fabrics are treated to meet NFPA 701. Upholstery weight fabrics are treated to meet NFPA 260/UFAC. These are the most commonly specified and most universally accepted tests for drapery and upholstery fabrics.

 What about certificates~

We issue a certificate for all flame retarded fabrics. If your project requires the fabric to meet a specific fire code, you must have a certificate of flame retardant. Be sure that the certificate you receive actually states that your fabric meets the specified code. We have seen many examples of fabrics that have been treated and the customer believes that the certificate states that their fabric meets the requirements for the specified code. In reality, the certificate just says that the fabric has been treated with a chemical that once passed a test using a different fabric. This type of wording may protect the fabric finisher if there is a problem, but it won't help you. It is important that you build a relationship and trust your fabric finisher.
