What will be required:
- Each person must provide their own Windows or Macintosh computer, laptop computer recommended, please bring an electrical extension cord if power is needed + a surge protector.
- Learn how easy it is to compose, edit, arrange, listen to, and print your music.
- Topics include: creating new documents, entering notes and markings, transposition, linked parts, page layout, create exercises for your band, audio/midi setup, and creating audio file to burn to a cd.
- Finale 2010 or 2009 software loaded on your computer
- We recommend bringing a midi keyboard and a midi interface connection device in order to hook up your computer to your midi keyboard.
- Headphones
- Projects you would like to work on.
Level 2 - Finale
- In this 3 day workshop, you will learn special features and shortcuts that will help you work more efficiently and increase your productivity as you prepare materials and/or arrangements for your band students. In addition, we will discuss arranging techniques and other usage of Finale as it pertains to your marching band.

This is a beautiful facility. The Southfork Ranch is approximately 8 miles from the Southfork Hotel. There will be a free shuttle van to take you to the ranch and return you to the hotel every evening. You will have a wonderful time at Southfork visiting the beautiful horses and Longhorn cattle in your spare time. Its is one of the most beautiful settings in north Texas. You will immediately understand why there are over 1400 events at Southfork a year.
Food:
There will be a large lunch buffet provided. The food is all prepared everyday at Southfork and is very outstanding. This is a very unique workshop, at a very unique location.About Jair Klarfeld:
Jair Klarfeld was an associate director at Union High School in Tulsa, OK. He served as a senior staff member of the award-winning Renegade Regiment marching band, and has directed the Senior H.S. Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, the Senior H.S. Jazz Ensemble, the Intermediate H.S. Jazz Ensemble and the 8th grade Band. He recently was assistant director at Clark High School in San Antonio, Texas.Klarfeld received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1978. He has held teaching positions at West Columbia H.S. (TX), Memorial H.S. (OK), Westland H.S. (OH), Jenks H.S. (OK).
He holds professional memberships in the National Educators Association (N.E.A.), Music Educators National Conference (M.E.N.C.), International Association of Jazz Educators (I.A.J.E.), Technology Institute for Music Educators (T.I.M.E.), Oklahoma Music Educators Association (O.M.E.A.), Oklahoma Bandmasters Association (O.B.A.), Texas Music Educators Association (T.M.E.A.).
Jair is active as a professional freelance musician as well as a music arranger. He has performed with the Oklahoma City Symphony, Ponca City Symphony, Bartlesville Symphony, Tulsa Philharmonic, Tulsa Starlight Band, Oklahoma Chamber Symphony performing Europe, various Big Bands and Jazz Combos. He has also performed with the following professional touring shows: Ice Capades and Barnum & Bailey Circus Band.
Some of the professional musicians he has had the honor to perform with are Chet Baker, Maureen McGovern, Clark Terry, Marian McPartland and others. He has had the honor to perform under the baton of Vaclav Nelhybel and Aaron Copland.
As a Jazz band director, he has had the honor and pleasure to have the following musicians work with and perform with his High School and Intermediate High School Jazz Ensembles at Union: Dr. Willie Hill Jr., Dr. Lou Fischer, Chris Vadalla, Jamey Aebersold, Earl Clark, Matt Wilson, Paul Wertico, Robin Eubanks, Maynard Ferguson, and Wynton Marsalis.
